How to Refinish the Body's Underside?

I'm replacing the battery box in a '70. What's the best way to refinish the top and bottom so it looks original?

I posted this question awhile ago in an existing thread about battery boxes, but it didn't get much notice.

    Thanks.

My suggestion would be to go to the meet in TX and observe. Terry will probably be there and he can show you cars that have the correct finish. Pictures in PERSON are worth thousands of words. And it's close to you!

      Hi Mark,
The underbody fiberglass surface was used just the way it came out of the mold.
Any paint… body color or blackout… would be in very limited amounts and areas.
What you'll face is trying to do the repair in a way that mimics the dark, 'stranded', finish of the original fiberglass/resin.
This is difficult to do and why repairs often have a little black sprayed on them to help conceal what was done.
Here's an example of the appearance of the battery compartment bottom and jack compartment side.
      Good Luck!
      Regards,
      Alan
