    Windshield Sealant

John Ballard told me in Rhode Island that 3M still makes a "silver colored" windshield sealant. My LT1 has remnants of the original sealant. I would like to reseal the car. This sealant is up in the chrome molding on top of the windshield. Does anyone know the 3M product number of this special color of sealant? Need to "Ballardize" this thing!

Mike there is a post below in similar threads, this has been discussed a few times before. there is a few ways of doing this. I myself used 3M strip chalk and some silver paint and a small brush to give it that factory look. John did my car at regional a few years ago.

I certainly don't want to contradict John Ballard. That would get me in serious trouble in oh so many ways.
I believe the material that is still available from 3M is gray and not silver. Close, as in horseshoes and hand grenades. It is called strip caulk ( or dum dum) and should be available at any body shop supply store. As another fair facsimile there is a gray weatherstrip calk available at hardware stores and big box building supply stores. Again, it is gray and not silver.
I believe one of the threads referenced in the "see below" post has suggestions on how to make the gray material look more like silver.

Scribbles Iridescent Silver 3D paint, or DecoFabric paint pen in silver.
Your local craft store (Michael's in my case) should have them. Test them and see which one you like better.

          Hi Mike,
Here's a photo of the original sealer, a photo of some replaced sealer using 'Scribbles', and the product.
          Regards,
          Alan

I also found the same sealer on the a-pillar in the seam between the stainless reveal molding and the stainless weatherstrip retainer.
