    911

If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to remember 911.

Lowered the flag, and went and washed a fire truck. I remember.

          Re: 911

I had just gotten off duty after the night shift as Captain of Truck 3 (Syracuse Fire Department). I was home checking my e-mails when my youngest son, in college at the time, IM'd me to turn on the TV - which I did, just in time to see the second plane hit. It was immediately clear what was going on, and we were told to prepare to report to New York City if necessary, as it was unknown at that point if their FD personnel losses would be in the hundreds (it turned out to be 343) or the thousands. Out of 412 SFD members, 412 offered to go . . . to do whatever was required, for as long as necessary. We did end up sending crews down to work at Ground Zero in the recovery operation. The sights, sounds and smells will never be forgotten. The anguish, profound sorrow and sense of loss will never be forgotten. The brave, selfless sacrifice of our brother firefighters and their colleagues will never be forgotten. I retired in 2013 as Deputy Chief of Operations after a 40-year career, and now spend time with my grandchildren and my Corvettes - opportunities my fallen brothers never had the opportunity to attain. These years I now appreciate and enjoy were stolen from them and their families.

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. We will not forget. NOT EVER. Rest in Peace, my friends. We will meet again.

We have a member, right here in NCRS...NYFD that nearly paid the ultimate sacrifice, that day. I'm not going to call his name but, others here know of whom I'm speaking. Our very own hero and I'm glad he is still with us.

God Bless America indeed. Great country. 911 was a dark day. Hey, National Football League, start fining your players that don't stand and salute Old Glory or the paying public is going to start boycotting the games and the swag. If it weren't for the men and woman who fought for and built this great nation, these players would all have to get real jobs. Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with you Edmund and I salute the men and women that wear the uniform of the police and firemen. Also the great sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform that protect us and our country.
Sacrifices are made in blood every day for our way of life. I would gladly put on my uniform again to defend this country.

It's OK. All of those men and women in uniform - be it military, police, fire or EMS - serve to protect and defend the rights of the individual to express their opinion, and Dave is entitled to his. I certainly don't agree with him and his opinions, but he is never the less entitled to them . . . just as a certain NFL quarterback is entitled to express his views by not standing for the National Anthem. Thank God we are still living in a country where such views may be publicly expressed, whether the majority agrees with them or not. Perhaps especially when they don't. Dave just needs to remember that if he flips his Corvette, or his home catches on fire, that those overpaid firefighters will be there - risking their own lives and their family's financial future and well-being for someone who thinks so little of them. We never ask who lives there.

No, this thread is not specifically Corvette-related, and as such, if the moderators choose to delete it, we will understand. I hope they don't. Some things are more important than even Corvettes. Just my opinion, of course.

I am a little disappointed that Dave would choose to express his opinions in a thread concerning one of the saddest days in the fire service. I lost several close personal friends that day, but I am comforted by the fact that these "overpaid" guys were where they were supposed to be, doing what they were supposed to do . . . without question or pause. For people they didn't even know. Please, Dave - don't dishonor their memory.

Sounds like Dave needs to find a country better suited to his taste. I'll start a go fund me page to help him on his way!

Last night I watched a CNN documentary movie that was made by two French brothers who were attached to a NYFD house just before 9/11. They had the only footage from inside the towers while they were ablaze, as well as the only footage Of the first plane striking the tower. It followed the men of that fire house (who amazingly all survived) before, during & after 9/11. Dave Parry, I would challenge you to watch that documentary and see if you still believe firemen are over paid.

I'm really at a loss for words...I'm sure this will be closed down soon, Mr. Perry, you have every right to express your opinion, but I couldn't disagree more with your reasoning.

Just for the sake of keeping the emphasis on Corvettes - Roy, I like your choice of cars. I bought this one new in 1972 . . . sure wish I still had it!

Nice ride. Looks like a lot of options, by chance did it have hard top, A/C, P/W, or leather. Great color combo - green on saddle !
