True, you do see some being "built" recently, so it is wise to be a demanding, due diligence, documentation and provenance oriented buyer. But luckily the sheer numbers pale in comparison to '67 L71s, so the numbers are well known and can't be nearly as many fakes as '67 L71s. And there is a long time registry with known ones too. I am always interested when one "emerges" from a barn or garage that isn't in the registry.

Yes, there are fewer tankers, fuelies, L88s etc vs 67 L71s but if one is intelligent about the way they do their due diligence, the likely hood of getting burned is greatly reduced. Your bitterness is showing over the fact that you got duped on a 67 L71. Time for you to move on.

Michael, take a look at the one in the picture of the for sale black tanker.

Excellent car, nothing like a barn find Z06 tanker.

I agree......funny how an unrestored car, with good bones, will get that much attention.

I have always been curious about the barn/garage find mystique of old cars. I think it is like the treasure hunter in all of us, wanting to discover an untouched, forgotten gem and resurrect it to become the car of our dreams from the graveyard. Of course the ultimate buyer of such cars never gets the monetary treasure, like the gold miners of the 1849 gold rush, it was the transportation, alcohol, and food suppliers of the frenzy that got the real gold......and with these we also know who is going to get the gold.......

Re: 63 SWC Z06 big tank

I just came across this august 2016 discussion with the white on red swc Z06 at Carlisle pictured. I was there and looked at this car and was amazed at the original condition , parts and markings. While I was there a gentleman with some nice photography equipment was taking detailed shots. I asked Fred from pro team about the car and he mentioned what a rare find it is and this gentleman was in the process of putting together a 1963 Z06 reference book. He mentioned it may be out soon so I think I'll start looking for it. Should be interesting.
