    63 SWC Z06 big tank

I was looking at the Auburn auction coming up next month and saw a beautiful 63 Fuel SWC, Z06, big brake, original
knock offs, big tank. It showed 20 to 30K on the odometer. Will be auctioned off on Sep 3rd. What a beauty.

Educate me. Were three bar KO's avaiable in 1963? I thought the originals were two bar but never really made it into the field except for a few cars. But I'm no 63 expert by any means.

The last CW I heard, IIRC, was that no '63s made it out of St. Louis with any kind of knock-offs.

There were NO 63's delivered to dealers or customers with KO wheels. Yes, several were ordered but were lined out on the window sticker or deleted. The problem existed until 1964 about serial number 14,000 when the KO wheels were released.
And yes, there are pictures of 63's with two bar and three bar KO wheels. There are also 63's with 62 Hubcaps pictured in some publications. Those 63's were slapped together for the press. Not for public consumption.

Re: 63 SWC Z06 big tank

There is a Central Office letter dtd 4/3/64 dealing with Air Loss in '64 cast aluminum wheels that the opening paragraph states:
"An undetermined quantity of Corvette cast aluminum wheels produced prior to March 4, and installed on vehicles prior
to Serial Number S113346, may be subject to air leakage.".
This leakage was due to a lack of "curing time" for the plastic sealer used on the inner surfaces of the wheel. Moisture was retained and would
"bubble" through the sealer during aluminum spraying and infra-red baking operations. The third paragraph states:
"All suspected production and service stock wheels have been returned to the source for correction. Qualified wheels
can be identified by the letter "T" or "TR" stamped adjacent to the cast part number on the wheel.".

I may get in trouble again BUT here go's. I just looked in my 63 Z06 Registry and Vin#15727 is in there and has been in there for a while as: a Silver Blue/ Blue int. car, NO power windows, NO Radio, big tank car. Build date as I4, BUT body # as 8511. The trim tag states a different color and build date????? I smell something wrong!!!!!! Factory Knock Off wheels per NCRS in 1964 in the 3000 serial #.

Hummmmm....the tanker registry I have, from Wayne M. shows it as black/black, radio delete, just like this one. You sure about your registry?

Read the question! He was asking about 1963 Corvettes! Not 1964's. And yes there were a lot of 1964's delivered with KO wheels.

date in the letter from GM Central Office is dated 4/3/64 so how could it be for a 63??

I'm curious about the 'correct' jack and lug wrench, are they special to big tank cars?

                          Dan,

Part number is the same for all 63's on the lug wrench and jack. Never saw one without the standard equipment. But anything could have happened with an SO car.

As far as I am aware, the jack and tools are the same, only they are stowed in a different place.
