A little more information from some research I did. The GM #1108418 starter was available in SERVICE for only a very short period of time. From what I can tell, it was released no earlier than about September, 1968. Then, it was discontinued from SERVICE in March, 1970 and replaced by the GM #1108400. However, the 1108418 apparently "lived on" in PRODUCTION for at least several more years.

I tried to determine just how the 1108418 and 1108400 differed but I came up dry. From what I can tell, all of the component parts of each of the two starters were the same. But, there just had to be some difference, as minor as it may have been.

Patrick, interesting! I'm not claiming this starter was not originally installed on your Corvette from the factory but the 1108400 is typically a big block starter?

My LT1 is just a little bit earlier than yours (June 1970 build) and was originally outfitted with a 1108338 too. What is the date on your starter? That could shed some light on its originality.

My apologies to Dan and others on this thread. My memory of the starter was faulty. It is actually 1108418 not 1108400, and its date code is 0E28
