    Burned Coil Lead Wire

    Hello everyone,

My coil lead wire broke when I removed it. It appears to be due to an overheat condition as it is burnt and sooty looking (see picture). It's a L68 with TI. Any ideas on what would cause this?

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Jack,
The wire must have ground out against the ignition shield at some point.

Jack, I melted one on our 1967. The terminals on the coil should be across the car not front and back. This will prevent the ignition shielding from contacting the terminals. I is hard to find pink wire, I used white colored with nail polish.

Thanks Gene and Scott. I just purchased the car so something like that probably happened.
