      Re: 63 327/300 Overheating

I installed new aluminum radiator (Dewitt) and fan clutch. Took out for test drive (highway and local streets) and test with long idle but no more overheating. Thanks to those who identified the old copper radiator and how to test old fan clutch. With engine running good, I am now ready for other projects to work on.

Thanks to all who commented. David

Thanks for the update and glad you solved the problem. Fortunately you took the advice to replace or restore OE components to original operating performance. That's the right way.

Some attempt to "re-engineer" the OE cooling system with aftermarket radiators, fans, "high-flow" water pumps, and snake-oil coolant additives, which in addition to being expensive, usually don't work.

As a relatively small car with a big engine, Chevrolet spared no cost to provide the Corvette a robust cooling system. The stacked plate aluminum radiator and viscous fan clutch were very high tech and expensive items for the day, but they do the cooling job very well.

I think if he goes by what I said in post #5, he might find that he doesn't need a new fan clutch.

            EDIT

In the above post (post #18), I meant to say: "........in post #10............."
