Oil Canister Spring ('63 to '67)

Did all C2 oil canisters have a spring at the bottom of the oil canister? (the spring is at the inside bottom of the canister and is placed over the center bolt) My '63 coupe has one but my '67 435hp does not. It appears that it should have the spring to press the filter tight to the block.

Yes.........they all had springs in the can when first installed on the engine.

You can buy a rebuild kit from LICS and do it yourself, or send out for a restoration.

The problem with their kit is that it does NOT include the cup and spring.

Good point. Thanks for keeping me honest. I guess that leaves either a "restoration", or buying a good used can on Ebay...............and then either using that can or salvaging the parts to rebuild the one you have.

I bought the reproduction can from Paragon many years ago, but eventually got my original restored by Ken Hansen. The wall thickness of the reproduction can was thinner with less gasket sealing surface. I felt the HD original was much better. My restored can from Ken was simply "outstanding". He may still do this work.

I couldn't find anybody that sells the cup and spring when I was looking....somebody had used some Bubba spring in mine and the cup was an old freeze plug somebody had drilled a hole in for the bolt. Apparently - this had worked for many, many oil filter changes...
