    Re: Hood Pull Broke

if u have a lift this a little easier to accomplish, but I was able to get something (a long rod of some sort) up under and push against the mechanism that the rod connects to and unlock the hood. Good luck

Jimmy you may can remove the big splash shield for more access on the drivers side. The cable probably pulled through the barrel nut.

Post #3 has a URL that will take you to a post I had on the CF. In that thread, post #8 has the Dave Zuberer PDF.

              Jimmy,

I'm sure it's the handle and cable!!!!! Your in luck cause I have an NOS handle assembly for a 1967. It's really for a 1967 BB 435HP but I'm sure it will work on your 1967 OK! Since its for a 435HP and its NOS its cost is $500.00 plus shipping. I take Paypal and all major credit cards. When do you want me to ship as I have your address.
I'm sure Joe (not for sale) Lucia has one on the shelf but this one is for sale today!
              Anxiously awaiting your call!
If we were not old friends I could not offer this NOS part at such a reduced price. After all its for a 67 435HP Corvette.

              JR

PS. Please no response from experts! I'm just trying to help an old friend.

It seems the C2 guys have a PDF or YouTube for every problem.

What can the less fortunate C3 owners do when this happens?

Perhaps it is because everything on a C2 at one time or another has been or is a problem - speaking with some experience here but wouldn't get rid of my C2 for anything.

For a 1968-76 there's a way to prevent this problem from ever occurring and, at the same time, making hood release a smoother, easier operation. To do this, purchase an NOS GM #14030127 or a reproduction of the 1980-82 hood release assembly. These assemblies use a STRANDED release cable in contrast to the monofilament cable used for 1968-76. Remove the cable and handle assembly from the bracket/sheath assembly and insert it into the existing bracket/sheath assembly (this not only preserves the existing wire-wound sheath but also makes the repair MUCH easier as removing and re-installing a new bracket/sheath assembly is difficult). Then, insert the stranded cable into the hood latch release and install TWO GM #14030136 retainers ("barrel nuts") or equivalent to retain the cable. If you want to get real anal about it, you can install a GM #14030128 retainer (crimp-on) as a "tertiary" back-up. Do all this and concerns about hood release cable breakage (most likely occurring at the most inopportune time) are gone FOREVER.

The original release cables for C2 and 1968-76 Corvettes were a MONOFILAMENT-type cable. These work-harden and break. They also often make for a "hard pull" (which only increases the chance for breakage at some point).

Does this sacrifice originality for 1968-76 Corvettes? Of course! In this case, originality be damned. In actuality, the visible elements of this "mod" are quite minor.

Thanks Joe. This is one of those tips that should be a sticky somewhere.

Your post does beg the question about 1977-79. What do they use? Also, would these parts work for mid-years?
