    1967 Roadster Arm Rest screws

I tried a few searches, but didn't find this.

The arm rest screws are missing on my 67 roadster. Paragon sells a 2" Phillip's machine thread screw with a fillister head. Long Island sells a sheet metal screw with a pan head and washer.

I'm thinking one or the other should be correct, but not both! Which is correct?

    Thanks,

    Don

Here are pictures from their catalogs. Paragon on the left and LIC on the right.

The original screws were GM #9420791. Unfortunately, I have no information on these screws as, as far as I can tell, they were never available in SERVICE. However, I can offer this tip: if the screws thread into a conventional nut (like a weld nut), then you need a machine screw. In that case, I would expect the machine screws are what you need and are, presumably, correct. However, if the screws thread into a sheet metal panel or a panel nut (J-nut), then the sheet metal screws are what you need and are, presumably, correct.

I recently worked on 1967 door panels and what appeared original on this car were the Phillips head sheet metal screw type with flat washers.

A quick check of the screw plate info at hand, states that the 1963 to 1966 type may be the Machine Screw type.

1963-1966 appears to have spot welded machine threaded T-Nuts

Whereas the 1967 version is shown as a plate without T-Nuts, but with a swedged area likely to have more surface area for the sheet metal type screw to grasp.

Expanding on the plate info that Rich provided.... page G140 of the '67 AIM indicates a "screw" [4] and "washer' [5] that seat into a "plate assembly" [7]----on my '67 the screws are sheet metal type philips head about 2 inches long....and a flat washer --- flat because it presses up against the soft door panel material ------

For what its worth both my '66 Bowtie Coupe and my '67 coupe use sheet metal phillips head screws with flat washers ---

          Hope this helps....

Thanks Rich and Bill, I'll order the sheet metal type.
