    Dave,

Many of the early (1953-1957) Corvette parts were "sole sourced" due to the small volume and no other applications.

The 1956 Corvette 1st design oil pan and D-D truck in the 1956 P&A is the same part number. However, the 1956 Corvette 1st design oil pan was unique and different from the D-D truck oil pan. The 1956 1st design Corvette oil pan dipstick tube housing on the pan is cast. While the D-D truck pan is stamped steel.

Of the half dozen or less original, non restored 1956 1st design Corvette engines, all have the dipstick end like the photo I previously posted. Have seen others and always thought they were 1956 truck dipsticks that had the "V" end.

      Gary,

Does the Early 1956 Corvette dipstick have two 1 3/4" "cut outs" spaced about 5" apart like my 1958 Chevrolet dipstick from the Ashburnham, MA, salvage yard (post dated 03/25/2016, photo dated 09/07/2012) or does it just have the one "cut out" just below the stop?

        Dave,

If you'r referring to the "spring" area of the dipstick that secures the dipstick against the tube, then there's only 1. I'm unable to locate my full length photo of the 1956 Corvette dipstick.

I guess the word "spring" is a better word for what I called a "cut out".
