    1963 stock 250hp 4 speed carb question

I've rebuilt my WCFB 3501S exactly to spec and it idles and pulls strong (for a mouse motor).
If I nail it at low RPM she'll buck a bit and then take off like a shot -- no problem at higher RPMs.
Is that just the way it is ? Accel pump has super double shot of juice when blipping the linkage, float level/drop is perfect, etc..

I know my dual quad '61 has to be 'up' on the Duntov cam for best WOT performance. So, am I just being picky ?

    Frank,

If I was having that trouble I would advance the timing a couple of degrees at a time and check it each time I advanced the timing. Don't advance it enough to get pinging when you push on the accelerator. If it pings just back off a couple and try that.

Easy enough, I'll try it tomorrow... Thanks Joe...

JR has a great suggestion. I'm running my 250 hp 63 about 11 degrees advanced.

          Frank,

FWIW, to much accelerator pump shot can make it feel lazy.

Lars setup my original distributor last year for 16* initial (long story) and I ran that way for a while but backed off to about 12 in January.
Think I'll try bumping it back up to 16* - it never pinged that high...can't hurt.

I don't think my pump shot is excessive but I'll look at that too...not much adjustment in that arena on the WCFBs though.

Bumping up the timing definitely helped; I'm at 16* initial (vac advance plugged); no pinging under load and no 'trailer-hitching' at cruise.

Still have the tiniest bit of bog at WOT from cruise (none at idle). Don't know if I should live with it or try to goose the timing up another degree or two.

Slight carb adjustments and advancing the timing worked superbly - thanks JR...

My first thought was the same.
