I am thinking about having my original '67 L-79 engine rebuilt by Jasper Engines in Indiana. Has anyone had them rebuild their motor and if so, were you satisfied with the results? Thoughts?

Re: Jasper Engine Rebuild
Herb, I agree with Mike, if your dealing with your original engine you will want to make sure the machinist knows about not touching the stamp pad. Once the numbers are removed the gone forever. Decking the block is a common practice for places like Jasper Engines, I have used them at my shop for replacement engines and they do a great job for everyday drivers--- But replacement of all the parts you normally think should be replaced sometimes is not. Such as lifters, oil pumps are sometimes refurbished in housing, not replaced. camshaft are sometimes reground, and the biggest issue is there measurements are to much on the give and take. And there is much more.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Jasper Engine Rebuild
Herb
Are you using their engine restoration shop at Jasper. Had a tour through that facility several years ago. Their restoration engine shop did all the right things to save all original markings on an engine. But they had detailed instruction from the owners of those engines. That shop is totally separated from their production area. It is maned by a small and dedicated team of engine restores.- Top

Re: Jasper Engine Rebuild
Thanks for the responses. My mechanic has been in touch with Jasper and has provided instructions on the rebuild. He has also marked the block and heads to assure we get the original ones back.
It is hard to overlook the 3 year/100k guarantee they provide.- Top
