    Re: 1968 door panels

I once had the original driver's door panel many years ago off of my Blue '68 conv(#18434)and it had written "pilot job" in crayon on it. Thought it was kinda strange being a mid-production car(May 6, 1968).

Hi Paul Considering the date of your car, I wonder if "Pilot job" referred to an early production door panel with the fastener -attached pull. Do you recall if your panels had the fastener attached pulls or the earlier panels with the integral pull? Also , do you remember if your panels had the date stamped on them?

      Thanks Tom

Hi Curt Thanks for checking. What is that "c" on the top of your panel written in (crayon, grease pencil, etc.)?

          Hello Thomas

Still not able to post the pics of my door panels. If you don't mind - could I forward the pics to you and then you could post them here. I have 2 sets of pics. One from my early model '68 (s/n 5338) and the other from another early model '68 (s/n 00245) that I used to own.

          Regards.

The C is written in black and looks to be crayon or grease pen. Thanks Curt

              Thanks again Thom

                Re: 1968 door panels

So I looked back at some older posts where this topic came up and I posted a pic of my door- (not sure if this is the way to the link, but it was a Sept 7th 2013 post from Dale Carlson called door panel Refurb , https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...602#post676602

My other door is "Pat" and the date is Feb 20-something, 68. My car is a March 7th car. So the door falls within what I found as a typical range for my car. I have found most parts on the car were late Jan through Feb build dates. My block was cast in Dec with Feb build.

Hi Blair Our internet service is not very good so I would probably not be able to post your pictures either. I would like to post the pictures of my panels but with our service, I don't think it would work. Also, some of the writing on my panels is faint and difficult to see unless you are close to the panel. Are the figures on your panel easy to read?

                  Thanks again Tom

Pat Your panels have about the same lead time as mine. My panels are stamped Feb.1 1968 and Feb.2 1967(?) My car's build date was Feb.12. Also, my driver's side panel has "Pat" as well. Is your "Pat"written in yellow crayon?

                    Thanks Tom

                      Hello Thomas,

Yes, all the figures are very easy to read. I have posted pics on the forum here before (and other forums) with no troubles at all. Not sure why I can't now. I will try again. May be another member here could post them for me.

                      Regards.

Hi Tom, The "pat" and "rose" names both appear to be black pen. The "Rose" panel is a mid Jan date stamp. Interesting that one of your panels is an entire year earlier?

Hi Pat Thanks for the pictures. My "Pat" panel (driver's side) is also in black. Do either of your panels have anything written in yellow crayon? My passenger side has "Peg" in yellow crayon. The 1967 date stamp is probably just a mistake. I wonder if anyone on the forum would know anything about "Quinnesec, Mich."and if it has any connection to corvette? It is also written in yellow on my passenger panel.

                          Thanks Tom

Nope, no yellow crayon markings on either of my doors. It is cool to think that Pat and Rose are on so many doors. Cool to see the "human" element of what went into our cars when they were birthed.

Mine are Pat on pax. side, 14 Feb 68 and Rose on driver side, 15 Feb 68. Kind of cool. Wonder what the story is on them.

Got the order wrong Pat is driver side and Rose Pax. side. I'm no hand writing expert but it looks like our Rose signatures are a little different. Maybe Rose had a hangover on one of those days. Also talking about fit. I am having a heck of a time aligning those two upper indented handle screws to hit the clips at the top of the door. Any trick to it?
