    Barrett Jackson

Is it me or was the auction awful this year? Bid on 2 cars 5 mins of commercials. Went to bed before the people eater came up I see it was a no sell. What did it stall at?
    thanks

    Re: Barret Jackson

It was a good thing that the 24 hours at Daytona race was also on at the same time on FS2, because for the first half hour every time I switched over to the auction it was on commercial break. Even then, when as you say they were selling cars, it was sell a car then go to commercial. Some nice expensive machines, but out of my interest. So, I finally gave up on it and stayed with the race. On that, it seemed the only commercial breaks came during yellow flags. When the green dropped to resume racing, it really got interesting for a few laps.

      Re: Barret Jackson

The coverage has gotten more and more commercial cluttered and filled with the "hosts" ignorant and empty headed comments and interviews, and crowd shots, etc. Very little of the real cars in the real auction. But remember, BJ is all about making money for Craig, Steve, and Gary and the employees, not about showing you great cars being auctioned. My expectations drop every year. When I go, I go early to see the cars on display and not for watching the auction, the place is a crowded mad house in person after about Wednesday. I visited Sunday/Monday, and usually left before 2 PM when you could still walk around and see cars.

I for one was sad to see the Purple car of Chips going up for Auction. Very sad indeed .

When I play it back from the DVR, I'll go through a 4 hour show in about 40 minutes. So I'm in FF mode 80% of the time. I can appreciate watching it "live" on TV would be painful and time consuming.

And it's frustrating listening to a whole team of commentators saying little of value. My wife tires of me talking to myself while watching. "I don't care you once owned a station wagon the same color. Tell me something relevant!" "How many miles?" "Which options does it have?" "What documentation does it have?" "What's original on it?" Etc.

We are very lucky here in SE PA. Every year, Chip's family has brought a Corvette, including the PPE, to the Annual Corvettes For Chip Show as the key car or theme. This year, it's a 59'. (see picture below) Show is May 1. I'm convinced that many of Chip's cars will fall into the classic high dollar category. Good example.. I believe the last two that rolled across the block last year were the 54'? and an anniversary Vette, bookended with matching VINs. http://www.corvettesforchip.com/inde...ring-small.jpg

Yep. No commercials on the stream. I DVR and then watch later skipping the commercials too. Unless i'm planning on bidding real time just doesn't make sense.

John, sad in the sense that it would close the book on the Miller family's involvement, but perhaps the consignor feels it could be in a collection that will allow it to be enjoyed by more. Hard to keep two milestone race cars, Cunnigham #3 and the PPE. Eric

With the DVR I can go through 3 hours in less than 1 hour.

So true. Cut out the ads and cars I could care less about and all the bla bla (except Steve Magnati) that then leaves 1/3 of the program. They should keep Steve Magnati and Ray Everham and get rid of the rest.

For myself Amy Assiter was always my favorite, never seemed to age and it was like seeing an old friend every year. I guess Spanky, Amy and BJ have parted ways.

Yes, they did. I think Amy and hubby have their own auction company, not sure what they sell though, here is the announcement I saw in an Amarillo newspaper:
After more than 20 years as a fixture at auction events, Spanky Assiter of Canyon's Assiter Auctioneers has been replaced as lead auctioneer of the popular Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions. "…

But BJ has a new attractive lady auctioneer, and she is younger than Amy, so changing of the guard.
