Re: Judging inner door handles on a '69

I have an NOS example at the house. I will try and post a picture later unless someone beats me to it. I recall that the red on NOS and originals are a slightly different red and that the red is a bit translucent on originals versus the solid red on the reproductions. I also recall that even the NOS examples had a couple variations on the red flag color. One NOS version was a bit more of a bright red like the reproduction.

Alan's picture very nicely shows that the flag red on originals is a bit different than the reproduction IMHO. It almost looks like a type of dye on originals.

    Kindest Regards,

    Bill

I've been taking a look at the NOS GM door handles available on eBay right now, and Bill is right -- I see variations in the emblems despite the fact that they are all GM door handles. Some appear to be more like the original one that Alan posted. Others appear to be more like the reproduction one that I posted.

I guess this is somewhat to be expected, as these handles were offered by GM for a long time as a service replacement item. That being the case, even with NOS examples available, it may be hard to determine exactly what the original emblems looked like for a particular model year.

        Can I add a question?

I remember hearing something about the white coloring in the emblems, and that different model years had the white block starting one block over? I think the conversation concerned the outside emblems, not these door handles but I'm now wondering if they followed suit?

I've never really looked closely enough to verify this, any truth to it?

I'm going to delete it and would like you to delete it from your 'quote' of my post too.
I'm sure someone will be along soon with a picture of a nos example.
          Regards,
          Alan

Why delete the photo? The photo provides much useful information, whether the part is worn, or not. It's NEVER a bad thing to have photos of original parts.

Yours is a great example of an original, no matter what age. Until someone posts an NOS example it's as good as we have in the thread and I would recommend leaving it up.

I have never seen a reason for you to remove a photo, because even if a thread takes a different turn your photos are so good that we all learn something from them. Each one has its own intrinsic educational value, and when removed that is lost.

So please, reconsider taking down photos after they've been posted to threads.

Thanks for posting this pic, Jeff!

I am curious... does the back of the handle look the same as the one that Craig posted above? In other words, does it have no embossments at all besides the little diamond-shaped logo near the end? (You may need to use a mirror to see the back of the handle while it is on the car, of course... sorry for the inconvenience.)

                Thanks again,
                Paul
