I asked about point deductions in the past for this mod and got some great answers. What I didn't see was anything about points vis a vis the radiator fan and clutch. I am running a Hayden 2747 heavy duty fan clutch and an 18-1/4" 7 blade fan (basically a later year Impala fan). The cooling is phenomenal (I hate those electric fans). So I'm wondering what the 'hit' is on those items. Point is, I have the original fan and fan clutch but I'm reluctant to swap them on unless there is some real benefit point-wise.

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
Frank,
A big block sold at Barret-Jackson with an LS-7 454 Vintage Air, Aluminum Radiator and clutch fan for 190K. It was the All-American 1966 Corvette as it had a part from all 50 states.
Good luck! Its your Corvette and you can do anything you want with your Corvette. Just remember you are playing by their rules so if you wanna play you can't be a cry baby!

Not crying - just working on my strategy.
Do I take off certain parts that will make the car less streetable to garner some points or stick with what I have and eat the deduct ?
I'm sure plenty have been through the same drill...- Top

If your looking to PV the car then you need a 97% Top Flight.

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
I had a '66 L79 coupe with Vintage Air (worked great too), side exhaust (an AO Smith body), Western Wheel knockoffs and radial, gold line tires, also green leather interior (that color only came in vinyl from the factory), but you know what? I loved the look, feel and drivability of the car so much I didn't change anything for the regional. It came in Second Flight, but so what, enjoy!Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
I thought you couldn't even enter a PV with aftermarket air conditioning - did I read that NCRS PV guide wrong ??
BTW - is this an original fan clutch for 63 base motor...obviously an Eaton with a Dec, 18th, 62 stamp, no "CJ" stamp
and no patent numbers that I see. It had leaked slightly in storage - no idea if its still good or not.
The contours on the face are different than the JG picture is what raised the question...Attached FilesLast edited by Frank D.; January 1, 2016, 10:52 AM.- Top

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
I know your not crying now but when the judging is over was what I was talking about. Your one of the few that wants your Corvette streetable and enjoy the wind in your hair! I respect that and that's why I am building a Corvette Resto-Rod. To enjoy it!
Take your Corvette to judging and show it off and build it like it's your baby!!!

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
Its all good. I made the decision early on to add Vintage Air regardless of the judging consequences; even though some purist friends advised against it. Some said to remove it. That ain't happening and I'm just trying to minimize point loss for simple things now. The car "is what it is"...
Its interesting cuz now I'm digging around in my Tupperware bins finding original parts I forgot (or never knew) I had !!- Top

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
Frank,
The Fan and Fan Clutch are each worth 5 originality points and 4 condition points. (found on the chassis judging sheets) If they differ significantly from what should be on your car, then the the judges can deduct all 18 points for these items.
If they can achieve at least 10% of the originality points, then they will earn condition points on there own merit.
As you "discover" original parts in your stash, you can evaluate the point value by looking at the copies of the judging score sheets that will be used on your car at this link.

good luck,

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
Frank,
I have VA on my '65 so I know all the deviations from original. The basic operations of VA is going to take you out of contention. The fan and clutch are the least of you problems points wise. There are so many other changes associated with the VA that flight judging and pv should be of no big surprise as to the points that will be lost. Enjoy the air and drive the car........!- Top

Re: Vintage Air in 63 headed for judging
I'm at a. car cruise right now with two NCRS judges and they did an impromptu pre-judging. I have a lot of small things to tackle still. Mostly bolts and gaskets. I'd be happy with any flight at this point.- Top
