    Joe,

Big Block assembly stampings occurred at Tonowanda prior to the heads being installed so it is possible for part of the characters to be under the head. VIN stampings happened in St Louis with the heads assembled on the engine

Well, I stand corrected but will stand by the conclusion that the stampings are too far toward the head. And how did Tonawanda know what the serial number was going to be?

The serial number was stamped at St Louis like Joseph posted above.

Build date stamped at engine plant, serial # stamped at St. Louis.

The pad stamping gang-holders used in production on the BB assembly line at Tonawanda had a tab extension on the lower edge that was to be placed over the forward edge of the pad to space the stamping back a consistent dimension from that forward pad edge, to ensure that no part of the stamping wound up under the front edge of the cylinder head after the heads went on.

Weird how all these funky looking pads are L71's. (scratches head)

Funky doesn't not necessarily mean that a pad is not original. That said if I were interested in the car that Enzo posted the pad pic of, it would be wise to have an expert confirm it's originality.

Like I said, I'm no expert but if the tool John showed above was used (and it was) it would be impossible to stamp an engine pad that far to the rear of the block. Sooooooooooooooooooo! Neither of the blocks shown could possibly be original.

But then again that is one idiots opinion! Mine!

Hey Joe, your no idiot but I would say a realist as many say in the NCRS... No worries not pursuing this car as it doesn't check out...

It is so sad and disappointing that '67 L71s all have a target on their backs due to the commonplace frauds that people try to promote with them.

I totally agree Michael, is there any original L71's still in existence?

Enzo, there are plenty of original 67 L71s out there. You have to know where to look and what to look for.
