67 Engine Stamp Pad opinion 194677S121492

Opinions please. A friend is starting his review of this L71.
While not the best photos, I'd like opinions on the stamp and broach marks. Are there any alarms before he continues his inspection? Thank you

The car is also listed in the C2 Registry. You didn't mention the trim tag there is photo of it.

I don't care for the rivets or the placement of the characters stamps. I'm still learning though.

This one if from a small block car build a few days before. IMO it seems to me to be more typical.

Also the full VIN should probably be 194677S121492.

      Thanks Mike. VIN typo corrected.
I did see the listing on the Registry. I see what you mean 😉
Other opinions on the engine stamp?

Jim, the stamps look OK, but I am not seeing the broach marks at all. The VIN looks a little too high toward the head and a little too fresh and deep, IMO.

It would be very wise to have someone who knows what they are looking at evaluate that stamp. My 2 cents is run away.

I agree. When a car has a fake Trim Tag, everything else should be suspect.

Jim, the stamp is fine with me the broach marks have deteriorated some after the years, But for sure the trim tag rivits looks suspect, I will leave that for the experts.

IMO, any six figure + investment needs an expert to closely examine it, too many fakes out there in the car world, of all marques (even Cobras and '65 GT350s ), but especially '67 L71s.

One more observation. Someone's attempt to "age" the pad carried over onto the end of the head and top of the water pump.

Not an expert but that is a poor stamp even for an amateur!!! It could not have been stamped in that position as it is mechanically impossible unless you pull the head off! Not a chance! Looks like the whole Corvette might be faked!

                            Joe,

Just for clarity (for mine and anyone else) the block would've been stamped with the head on after arrival from Tonawada engine plant?

                              Michael,

You are absolutely correct in your assumption that the block was stamped with the head on! It's a BB so the head plug protrudes and will not allow the stamping tool back that far toward the block. Same with the SN stamp. Just an amateurish job. That block was stamped with the head off.
