    Mis-alignment of belts on a 1959, 283

As I was pre-assembling the engine, (283) on the engine stand, I noticed that the fan blade/water pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley do not line up. The crankshaft pulley is about a quarter of an inch farther in towards the block than the water pump pulley. What would you recommend, pull the harmonic balancer out or add some shims between the crankshaft pulley and the harmonic balancer to line up the lower pulley with the water pump pulley?
    Any ideas?

Did you use the spacer that goes on the crank before the balancer? It makes up for the added thickness of the engine mount between the water pump and block.

No, didn't know there was a spacer back there. Thank you so very much. I'll go on the internet and see what I can find. This car had a 327 in it when I purchased it.
