    C2 - Voltage Regulator Question

I would like to replace my reproduction voltage regulator with an original one date coded. I have a November '66 build date 1967 coupe. Can you tell me what is the correct date code? Is it 6K?? Part # 1119515. - thank you, Wayne

    Wayne,
You should precede the build of the car. If your car was built at beginning of Nov. Then no not typical. But at the end of the month build and the regulator was at the beginning of the month then ok. I would suggest anything before Nov within 6 months is more typical to avoid question.

        Wayne - NOTE:"I" is not used to represent a month. (p. 156, 1967 NCRS TIM&JG, 5th Ed.) So, 6K should work. Our Sept 21, 1966 built '67 has a 6J regulator. Pete

            Wayne,

Check with John Meissinger. He typically has lots of original VRs.

go junk yarding as unmolested GM cars of the era will have 515 regulators. i especially like corvairs as their regulators are above oil spewing engines which typically protects the cad plating on the regulator base. mike

Hey Mike, most of the junk yards today have modern junk. Hard to find "old junk yards". I collected stuff in the old days just as you did. But those dinosaur days are gone around here. lol.......

                  Gene,

Very true. The only "junk yards" within a 2-hours drive of San Jose, CA are "pick-your-part" yards with virtually nothing older than 15 years.

99.9% of junkyards will laugh if you ask them about parts for '60s muscle cars....they are all long gone one way or another.....

Pete, Wayne -- I thought 6K sounded familiar. Here's a junkyard unit from about 10 years ago. Been on my 396 (obviously not "born with" unit) for about that same time. For the life of me, I can't see how judges can read that weak stamping, especially when it's buried with horn relay wiring.
