Suggestions for moving four post lifts

I know this is not a Corvette technical question.

I have two four post lifts that are probably Back Yard Buddy's which I bought about 26 years ago, I think they became Auto Lifters, they are very early models and do not have caster provisions or casters with them for easy mobility. I need to move these lifts to my shop at the house, I prefer not to disassemble them. I need suggestions for moving them. The base plates are 8' 6" at the widest point.

How far is the move and over what type of terrain?

Sorry, seventeen miles. will have to be loaded on something and unloaded, also will need to be mobile enough to get them moved out of one building and into position in another.

        Hire workers
Go about your day, having lunch and a couple beers
When workers are finished, stroke check and make dinner plans

pontoon boat trailer works great, raise the lift empty, slide to boat trailer under the lift and lower onto 4X4 cross ties. jack up
posts and clamp, work great for me. good luck

Kramden, I probably should opt for your suggestions.

I have yet to find a trailer I can rent that will fit between the posts, I'll check into a pontoon boat trailer. Thanks!

Roy the pontoon trailer is a good idea using the method we spoke about The lifts should weigh less than 2000 lbs each

Roy hope you post your method of moving your two lifts. I have two lifts like yours to move one day when I move from my current home.

Re: Suggestions for moving four post lifts

Back when I lived in IN, companies would display fully assembled lifts at the INDY speedway meet. They would sell them on site so they didn't have to take back home. They did as mentioned above; backed a trailer under the raised lift. Lower the lift and raised the feet off the ground. Tied it down and hauled it to the buyer's house. Might not want to do it for across the USA but works for short hauls.

I completely agree!! Roy, ask yourself what your time (and safety) are worth versus paying someone else to do the grunt work. I bet you can supervise the heck out of folks with a cold one in hand. Best of luck with the move.

I would look into the companies that install lifts and I am sure they could move them. When they do get to your house be sure to expoy the anchors in.

With all due respect, I'm not sure I would want to work under a 26 year old lift that was just uninstalled, moved 17 miles by one of unverified skill, and reinstalled.
