Reiner, You may not have pests, or not know that you do. A customer of mine did exactly what you did. Dropped his tank, protected his tank sheet and put it back up on the original tank. Years later he decided to restore the car. When we lifted the body the tank sheet was still there. It was, However, in 1000 little chewed up pieces along with some carpet insulation. The mice destroyed his only piece of original documentation he had for his LT1. I believe that a better way to preserve your document is to remove it and have a historic paper expert preserve it for you. Then you can secure it in a safer place than the top of your fuel tank.

Your WT stamp tells me this practice occurred even earlier than the WO stamp we use in the 73 manual to illustrate this early practice.

Your tank sticker, actually the Corvette Order Copy does not document the broadcast code, but as the St Louis plant transitioned to the landscape style buildsheet, those documents list broadcast codes that reconcile with the buildsheet.

The ink stamp on the transmission started earlier than 1972. My 1970 has it, but I can't remember what it is. If I ever get through my old pictures -- real ones with negatives -- I can let you know. It is on the top of the transmission, so it is invisible as installed. I wouldn't be surprised if that ink stamp goes back into the C2 era.
