I purchased a 70 LT1 earlier this year. I have been collecting cars for the past 30+years, but this is my first collectable Corvette (I have had many other vettes over the years). I bought the car from the original owner who gave me all the original documents, but when I asked about the tank sticker, the seller did not know what I was referring to. This week I took time to lower the tank and there it was. What do I do, remove it or leave it attatched (I am inclined to leave it there). If I leave it, any recommendations on how to protect it or just leave it as is. I guess it lasted 45 years so far and now the car is being kept in a climate controlled garage. I plan on having the car judged in the future and am new to the NCRS. Any advice is appreciated

Re: Tank Sticker Still On Tank
You could leave it on the tank and install the tank if it's still in good usable condition. Or you can replace the tank and neatly cut the tank around the sheet and then frame it. What ever you do take plenty of pictures- Top

Hi Reiner,
NICE!
I think I'd get a single piece of the clear plastic that conservators use to protect documents. I'd place it over the tank sheet and tape around the perimeter of the sheet of plastic.
Perhaps 50 years from now someone else will find it and be pleased that you took the time to leave it where it is AND protect it.
It looks like you have a nicely equipped 70 LT-!.
Good Luck!

Re: Tank Sticker Still On Tank
Welcome, Reiner. How many miles on your new car and where has it been living?? As mentioned, that is the best preserved 44 year old tank sticker I've ever seen. If you're not planning on driving in any inclement weather and you already stated it's going to be in a climate controlled garage, I would leave the tank sticker exactly where it is. And, as Alan suggested, maybe cover it with some preservation plastic that won't harm the document.Leif

Re: Tank Sticker Still On Tank
Welcome Reiner,
I agree with Alan, you should try to cover it and leave it! That is in amazing condition, and has survived all these years. If you try to remove it, it will probably tear where it is adhered to the tank. It looks like something stained it, maybe some over flow gasI would be very cautious when fueling the car not to spill or over flow into the rubber seal some fuel may leak down on the tank, especially if you cover with plastic protection. But it lasted this long didn't it.
Enjoy your car!Jimmy

The stain is exactly that...fuel. I can see the trail on the tank from the fill too the tank sheetI tried to pull gently on it and think it will tear. I think the only way to remove without damage is a heat gun. I am leaning toward leaving it on the tank for the next guy to see it 45 years from now.

Re: Tank Sticker Still On Tank
The tank sticker is worth infinitely more than a 45 year old gas tank. Cut a piece of the tank off with the sticker still on it and put it in a preservation envelope. Then you won't have to worry about garage conditions or gas spillage. You only have one piece of documentation and it doesn't do you any good hidden in the car and vulnerable to degradation.- Top

Re: Tank Sticker Still On Tank
When I was working on the rear ended, I dropped my tank down on my 67 coupe to see if the build sheet was still there and it was. I decided to leave it alone and reinstalled the tank. Fast forward eight years and decided to restore the car. I dropped the tank expecting to find the build sheet and what did I find........a not so dusty rectangle on my tank and a strip or two of glue. Am I kicking myself now for not trying to remove it then- Top
