Differential bracket mount bolts, two or one castle nut bolts? (67)

    Hello,
Confused on whether one or both bolts are of the castle nut/cotter pin variety?

    Thanks

65-79 used the full length bolt. The 63-64 and some 65's used a small 7/16-14 bolt for the first hole. It was a weakness along with the steel bracket so the revision was to drill both thru and use the longer bolts, by 69 there was a reinforced bracket in use.

Here's a related technical bulletin. Interesting to note that they do not recommend drilling through the front bolt holes.

It may be that the 63-E65 differential carrier casting would not support a through bolt at the forward location.

          Chris,
Your title shows you're asking about a '67 but the picture you show is for a '63-'E65. See the pic below from the '67 AIM. Only the front bolt receives the cotter pin. The rear bolt receives a lock washer. Note the direction of insertion of each bolt, as well.

Yes, it was as you describe through 1968, at least as far as the AIM is concerned. However, it changed for 1969 and later when both bolts received SLOTTED NUTS (NOT castle nuts) and cotter pins. Could cars earlier than 1969 have received the same configuration? I tend to think so.

              Joe,
I agree completely with what you're saying. My point was the OP was asking about his "67 yet he was showing a diagram of a '63-'65E...didn't want him to get any more confused with information overload.

here's my early '65 carrier (AP-9-17-64) with the forward threaded bolt holes (notice inspection paint dabs)

                  Christopher,

Here is what you need for your '67.
