Thanks. Our desire was to purchase a good condition driver. I possess average mechanical skills, but will utilize a local mechnic for repairs.

When replacing parts, eg..ashtray, minor interior items...are Corvette America, or others (supplier) parts undesirable?

Depending on your exact KY location your closest chapter may not be in your region. I am the Region 2 Representative which covers Quebec, Ontario, Michigan and Ohio. For many members in Northern Kentucky the Queen City chapter in Cincinnati maybe your closest. Yes you can be a member of this chapter in fact you can join any and as many chapter as you wish. Hope this will help.

              Kent,
Welcome to the hobby and the NCRS. Looks like you found a nice one - congratulations. You indicate that you possess "average mechanical skills and will utilize a local mechanic". That's fine, a lot of Vette owners do that but, unless you are a very unusual person I guarantee that you will "get the fever" and as time passes will want to learn and know more about your car's workings and components. That said, I would suggest that you purchase a 1965 Shop Manual, an Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) and a Judging Manual (all available through the NCRS store). May sound like overkill and a lot more information than you think you need but, between the three references and the illustrations that are in most parts catalogs you will be able to make informed decisions regarding the replacement of original vs after market (read made in the PRC) parts, the proper operation and performance of various components and "what too look for" in general. As a minimum, they will help you discuss technical issues with your mechanic and, he (or she) may want to refer to the references to ensure he is performing repairs correctly. Again, welcome aboard - you are in great company.
              Ed

As soon as the new one comes out, order the NCRS judging guide from this site. But first, learn how to read the codes on your trim tag - make sure the interior code is correct for... (Looks like saddle in the photos.) Do a google search for "Corvette 1965 trim codes" and compare the code with what you see in the trim tag. Learn the difference between the body number on the trim tag, and the VIN number on the plate next to it (under the glove box). Learn to identify "rosette" rivets - probably holding the VIN tag on. Rosettes were used on most '65 tags.

Just for fun, get "Chevrolet by the Numbers 1965-1969" by Alan Colvin - Read his article about special '65s in the Appendix. You'll want the book from Colvin to identify part numbers not covered by the current judging guide. As Paragon for a discount of 10% and Have fun!

And keep an eye on the wheels. Check for tightness frequently. Some owners have a special tool to fit over the three bar spinners. Search for things like that on this discussion site.
