1967 AC Expansion Valve lines clamp

In the latest judging manual in states for that clamp should look like this:MYF.jpg. Now while at Corvettes at Carlisle I looked at a bunch of restored and unrestored 67 AC cars. and every single one looked like this:clamp.jpg. Granted this was a one point deduction at a regional I want to know whats really correct.

Keith -- are we talking those really small vertical lines held to the evaporator box ? If so, those on my early '65 have the clamp that surrounds and holds both.

In the 2nd pic, you can just make out that the two are held by one clamp. Don't know if same set-up for the '67s with their POA valve (versus STV in '65).

        Keith ,

Mine is a mid to late 66 , but I have the closed loop holder also.

Does it show a revision and Date in the 67 AIM anywhere ? The change could have occurred as a result of the POA vs STV valve as Wayne stated. The 66 AIM shows the box assembly on C-60 D-5, but doesn't show either clamp as far as I can see .

Don't have a AIM in front of me but from what I recall there is no clear picture of the clamp or lines. So was the evaporator box, POA valve, expansion valve, and other parts sent to St Louis as a completed assembly and just installed. Or was it sub assembled off line and then installed?

Thanks Grag. That help supports my case. But can someone answer me if the evaporator housing was assembled at St Louis or not?

Is there anywhere to pick up the correct (or even close to correct) clamp and screw. I looked and I'm missing mine.

So what is the clamp supposed to be: painted metal, vinyl or rubber coating, etc?

In an effort to review and improve the 1967 5th edition for the future 6th edition, I'm searching for the description and photo of the clamp you question. Exactly where in the 5th edition of the 67 CTIM&JG does the description you refer to appear?

Nick I'm not sure I just remember at Charlotte for the regional a judge told my dad and I this. And he lost a point. And one of the cars I looked at was yours and it had the single black plastic clip.

The expansion valve on my red driver has been replaced (note excess tubing typical of replacements discretely looped) by a previous owner so its clamp may not be a valid judging example regarding factory originality. The first clamp you show looks more like a control cables clamp as the relatively thinner tubing would likely chafe and wear thin in a loose retainer as pictured. The second image appears as a more practical configuration. A number of unrestored '67 C60 cars previously owned and judged had clamp as pictured in Greg's image.

I reviewed Section 17. Heater and Air-conditioning of the 5th edition Mechanical section a number of times in an effort to formulate a correction if needed, but did not see anything regarding the clamp for the tubing. Please advise if you locate it elsewhere...
