Has anyone had their Corvette walnut shell or plastic media blasted? Don't want to use soda. Is the prefer method still paint stripper?

Re: Walnut shell or plastic media blasting
I have seen more than a few plastic media blasted and as far as I,m concerned it ruined the fiberglass . I dont know about walnut shells . They both are great on metal cars but should not be used on fiberglass . Ask the blaster to show you a Corvette just as he is done blasting it .- Top

Re: Walnut shell or plastic media blasting
You said you did one with CO2? Not sure what you mean...I will eventually paint my 67 L-36 Coupe and want to understand the right process.

Re: Walnut shell or plastic media blasting
This process, from what I understand, definitely is not do-it-yourself, and is more expensive than other types of media blasting. Process utilizes beads of dry ice to blast away crud. It is particularly effective against grease and oil as these contaminates are frozen and very effectively removed with little to no residue. This process requires specialized equipment, and from what I have seen, is part of a franchise type operation.

Re: Walnut shell or plastic media blasting
Has anyone ever stripped undercoating from the underside of a metal car using this method? If so is it possible to just remove the undercoating and leave the gray primer?
Thanks guys,

Re: Walnut shell or plastic media blasting
I stripped my '64 with a product called PeelAway7- you brush a gel on heavy, cover it with their paper, and wait a few minutes' and just scrape the soft paint away. no bad smell, not corrsive, and it took it right down to the fibreglas. Not real fast but I was very pleased with it. I was advised against blasting because it gets into crevices and keeps coming out gradually.- Top
