    Radiator Overflow Hose size

What is the correct length, the I.D and O.D. of the smooth wall radiator overflow hose on a 70 L46?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Bill, not sure if it matters but A/C cars and non A/C may matter in length.

"radiator overflow hose"... I don't know off hand either, but which hose are you asking about? The small diameter hose that goes from the radiator to the expansion tank? Or the overflow discharge hose attached to the neck of the expansion tank?

Overflow discharge hose. L46 did not have expansion tank.

        Thanks, Bill

My understanding is the hose should not have ribs. I have the Doc Rebuild hose.

            Thanks

My 1972 has ribs on it, and it sure doesn't look like it has ever been off the car.

Same with another 72 that I care for.

Yes, I know that it's a different year. Just giving two data points for the same hose.

Well I guess for now I will keep the ribbed Doc Rebuild hose.

Seems there may be some conflicting info if I have read other threads correctly.

                Thank you

My '70 454 AC car has an overflow hose with ribs. I don't know if it's original but it's stiff and brittle and has been installed since at least January 1990.

                    Bill,
My unmolested 70 L46 built in March has a ribbed hose. It still has the clip on the radiator and the black plastic loop that pushes into the inner fender, so I'm really convinced it is original. It is thin wall hose, ribbed, ID 3/8, OD 1/2". Best guess on length is about 24".radiator overflow hose and clips (2).jpg

I will keep what I have then. Thank you Mike.

Any chance of getting a picture of the clip and the Black Plastic Loop?

                      Kind Regards,

                        Bill,
I injured the clip but I think the picture will help. The thin-wall hose is long enough to extend down between the gap in the radiator support and the frame, so that if it has to dump fluid, it does so on the ground, not on any car parts. I also included pic of radiator tag.
                        Regards,
                        Mike
