Re: 58 Front Suspension Reassembly and colors

Well the 58-60 judging guide still references the "mitt" method as well as stating that several parts of the front suspension should appear "unpainted" and with yellow inspection marks. Nor does it mention that any inspection markings are not judged.

Though out the course of this thread we have learned this is not the case......... Looking forward to an updated JG. Who do I contact to volunteer to help with the next addition?

Top of front sway bar was hit from the top also, and probably the exhaust system also. Not pretty!

Very much the way I found my 60 to be. That car I just brought back to life by doing enough to it to try and maintain as much of the originality I could while making it safe to drive. It went very well and is a car that just wants to run. Turn the key and go!

This 58 on the other hand is my first attempt at restoring a car that will be judged. It has fought me every stinkin' step of the way. I have about 10 weeks to get it all back together and show ready. I foresee a lot of vacation days and sick days in my future.......

Mike, thanks for jogging my memory! I had some friends in school who worked at Dana and went through the plant a couple of times and also on a job interview. I recall a board with colors and notations but it has been too long to remember the details. I paid too much attention to the parts! Hope all is well! Steve

Re: 58 Front Suspension Reassembly and colors

Gary, I plan to have my 56 judged in April. Can you tell me where the white mark on the rear axle (standard) is and what would it look like? The chassis identification marks is the last project I have. Thanks for you help, Joe

              Joseph,

Are you talking about the white paint on the axles? If so, a brush strip on the axle shaft itself, which is not visible when installed and the hub end of the axle shafts are white. Just the inside of the round hub is painted white and again not visible with hub caps installed.

Thanks Gary for your reply. I did not know about that marking, thanks. Can you clarify the yellow mark on the rear axle housing & differential (JM page 95), were and what does it look like? Thanks, Joe
