I redid that diagram this morning. This may be better to see. The right half of the picture is foreground, the left half is the cutaway, as shown in the aim.

This enhanced drawing looks correct to me - great job. Note the cove shape of the insulator, which appears to have been designed to fit on top of the heater box.

        Richard,

Great pics, I have a insulator around here that has the four holes like what you described above. I am glad you brought this up because I need to glue the insulator in my 63 and I kept thinking I needed to remove the inner box and attach over the studs.

What did you use to glue it in place?

Tim, Actually I cheat and never glue them in. After the box is installed I simply push it in and around the flange. It's held in place by the pressure of the upper dash ceiling and the edge of the carpet and the side of the cowl. I'm not really sure it does anything anyways. Maybe just a draft blocker and heat insulator for the cabin when the heater is off for summertime use.

A few pics I took last night. it's the gray foam deep down inside. It'll be tricky for you to install with the glovebox installed. This one was still out.

I'm thinking that contact cement was the adhesive. The AIM shows the same adhesive used to glue the jute under dash insulation in place and the same adhesive number for all the heater gaskets AIM pages 1ASM sheets D6 and D8
