Go about 2/3 of the way down this page and you'll see examples of good and bad repro midyear speakers: http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm

I think this outfit sells quality repros if you think that might be an option...

I could not find any areas where a 63 speaker is on the judging sheets either ??

Attached is my judging sheet from the 2010 national convention. The speaker itself is not "listed" as a line item. The speaker was noted as a replacement. I questioned the judge about that and he showed me using a mirror and flashlight. I actually thought I had the correct speaker installed. (I had an original and had neglected to install it when assembling the car... that is why I questioned the judge) The speaker is a pain to install after the fact, but it is in there now. The center photo is a typical aftermarket unit. The 3rd photo are originals needing "reconing".

Interesting the judge wrote that down, but deducted no points, which indicates to me it is not being judged? So if it is not, what is the point of pointing it out? And it is shown in Section 6, not Section 5 which has the picture and description in the '67 TIM & Judging Guide. Very odd.

And '63-'67 all have the same judging sheets as well. Go figure.

Mike, I believe that it may be hard to figure out the point value for the radio speaker since its really not called out for on a specific line. I have had my 63 judged at chapter and regional without anyone even looking at the speaker. next year it will be at the nationals???

Ed, I wish you very good luck at next year's National, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will be there to congratulate you on reaching your goals! We found out this year at the Nationals, that the '63-'64 judging teams are like a box of chocolates, you never know who you are going to get. But, the interior team that did '64s at Denver were excellent, and they did not look or judge the speaker's appearances. I hope they are the same for you in Rhode Island.

I will also give out a strong recommendation for Ron McGee at Jackson Speaker Service, I have had dozens done by them in the last 30 years and they are always perfect, VERY reasonable and fast turn around.

Original cores are not hard to find if you do not have one, and no ones repo will look anything like original or sound any better IMO.

Tried to contact Ron today - called twice, left messages. Haven't received a return call yet. Wish he had an email or a website through which I could contact him. Hope he is on vacation and having a great time and not too busy to take new business.

Why would you want a quality repo when they don't resemble the originals and rebuilding an original is cost effective, you don't have to worry about the wrong ohms and if anyone takes time to mirror the speaker it will be original.
