Need to order tires for my 1960 Black-on-black with black coves 290HP 4:11 rear end. What say you - blackwall or whitewall? Which looks best in your opinion? Any pics with either configuration?

If you have documentation indicating how it was ordered, you might go with that.
Otherwise, I would say your opinion about which looks better is the only one that matters. Unless, of course, you're married.Mark Edmondson

You be the judge. I grab these two pics off the internet. Granted the one with the blackwalls does not have black coves but I think there is enough black there to get an appreciation of what it would look like all black.
I vote for whitewalls.
You didn't mention if you have full wheel covers or dog food caps - if the later then I think blackwalls would be the way to go.Ed- Top

I personally like the white walls. The original owner of my car liked the black walls as evident when I first saw the car. Original receipt for the car shows it came with whitewalls.

I agree with Mark, what do you care what others think? It's your car make it the way you want it! I love this organization but a lot of people here would frown at my 62 because it has a 383 crate motor and a tremec 5-speed. I put over 6000 miles a year on it here in northern Ohio and I just love that I can drive it to Indy or Charlotte to car shows and get 23 miles to the gallon and not have to worry about gas stations. Just my old two cents, and I don't care if anyone else agrees LOL

I know I'm "old school" but I just think C1 Corvettes look better with whitewalls. I don't know if records exist as to which kind were originally ordered on these cars, but my guess would be more came with whitewalls.
However, when it comes to C2s and later Corvettes, then my opinion changes.- Top

My '59 black/black/black will be wearing blackwalls when it's done. It's more of a performance look. If it was a hyd. cammed engine with a full compliment of other options, like yours, I would go with whitewalls. However it is a 270, 4 speed, posi with the courtesy light and heater as the only other options.

Re: What's your vote - Blackwall or Whitewall?
Here's another vote for wide whitewalls. IMHO, they look more period correct. I know that back then, when owners bought new tires, a whitewall was $2-$3 more per tire and that was "real" money. Many whitewalls were replaced with blackwalls as an economic thing...not so much an appearance thing.Leif

Re: What's your vote - Blackwall or Whitewall?
Blackwalls would look ok - probably pretty good - if you were going to do a few minor modifications to make it look like a period correct street racer. Give it a bit of a rake, mat finish grey Cragar or American mags, fat tires in the back, 6.70s up front - you know, the Fonz look.Ed- Top
