I have that also, got it when I was receiving corvette news and still have it and review it from time to time.

I agree. The information is very useful, and the articles are not only interesting, but really impart a feel for the time. If anyone is getting rid of early issues, say pre-63, please let me know.

        Re: "Corvette News" Magazine

CN was great in the early years... lots of technical articles, Corvette racing reports and good articles on the new model year features including tune-up specs and other technical data.

As we moved into the emissions era there was less technical content. The last good technical article I recall was in 1970 with some recommended jet changes and adjusting the rear Quadrajet throttles to open sooner. Of course, this was technically illegal and the lawyers probably put a stop to any recommended changes to improve performance as it would affect emissions.

I have a mostly complete collection from the issue that describes the new '63 Corvette to circa '79, though a few went MIA over the years. I recall being notified about that time that further issues would only be available via paid subscription. Since the content had deteriorated IMO, I decided not to subscribe.

Does anyone recall when Corvette News ceased publication?

I'm surprised complete or nearly complete collections appear to have little or no value.

How far back in years does the Best of Corvette News cover?

            Duke,
Free subscriptions of Corvette News ended in the early/Mid 1980's and that began the "end" of the magazine. Like you, once Chevrolet began to charge for it the interest decreased rapidly. My research is packed away so I'm guessing a bit but CN ended in the early 1990's and Corvette Quarterly was the successor publication. That was a weak publication and I believe it ceased after 10-12 years. There are a couple of historians out there that can pinpoint the dates better.
Complete sets of Corvette News still have significant value especially if they have all the Supplements, the 4 #3 record and original binders. The later issues from the early 70's and newer don't add much to the value.

The Best of Corvette News covers issues from Vol. 1 No. 1 to Vol. 19 No. 1 which is from 1957 to the intro of the 1976 model. There are articles about 53-56 Corvettes. Not every article printed in Corvette News is included. However the book runs 655 pages so in my opinion a lot of the most interesting articles are there.

They are always on E-Bay and usually sell for around $20.

Therein lies the problem, Kevin. Nobody collects anymore.

The current attitude is that everything is available "online" so why buy/collect original magazines. Same goes with original literature.

I sold my complete set of Corvette News about 10 years ago for $3000. It was complete with all the supplements, record, etc. They were also in original Corvette News binders.

                  I'll bet I couldn't get $500. for them today.

I have the winter 87/88 issue of Corvette News and the Spring 88 Corvette Quarterly. It lasted at least until 2002.

                        Chuck,
I was was one of those guys that paid $1500 for a Vol 1 #1 Corvette News. At that time I was glad to find one to complete my collection. Like you I have enjoyed searching, researching and collecting all the Corvette News magazines. I still have all of mine.
I'm not sure I agree with you that a set is $500. I just sold a spare set for $2500. Nice set with binders, supplements etc. I guess I'm an old school guy but I think some interesting and rare paper items will come back. This electronic thing is not the same as holding something in your hand. Restorers are very soft and may stay that way but Chevrolet items from the 50's are pretty special IMHO.

                          Hi Dave,

My suggestion or question was simply to create a digital library so that these publications don't completely disappear! Not to infer that holding, smelling, and turning the pages isn't some part of the enjoyment of reading them. I too enjoy reading older magazines and have boxes of old Hot Rod Magazines piled up in my garage. You know I'm a fan of anything Corvette paperwork related!

                            Kevin,
Never thought you were inferring that at all. I too would like to see these saved digitally so save them forever. I'm in the process of moving so I had the opportunity to see all the paper I had accumulated over the last 25 years. I must admit I was overwhelmed with the quality of it all. Lots of great stuff to read and admire. I'm having trouble believing people will not enjoy this stuff in the future.

Hi Bill...I have a 1970 Roadster and the CN copies from Dec/Jan 1970 to Dec/Jan 1971. I believe the Aug/Sep 1969 and the Oct/Nov 1969 issues contained information about the 1970. If they do and you are willing to part with them, please let me know and we can take this discussion off line. Thanks...Clark
