Best sealer for Manifold hose nipples

On a prior thread about Rusted or seized Hose fittings in Aluminum Intakes , it was pointed out that thread damage may occur from removing them . This then could cause Anti Freeze leakage .

Without knowing whether this is or will be the case , and perhaps regardless, what is the best preventative to use ?

I think I used Teflon Tape on the nipple threads , but was considering using Permatex Ultra Copper . Are either a good or bad idea , possible point deduction aside ?

I think Teflon tape works very well. I sometimes use it. However, I think a better solution is Permatex Pipe Thread Sealer with Teflon. That's what I use most often. It's available under a GM part number but you can also get it in most auto parts stores.

Joe offers good advice. My personal choice for a sealer for this application is Loctite/Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant with Teflon. Part # 59214/31/35 depending on size tube. Also available under NAPA #765-1155. Good to 400F. White paste.

I Have used both in the chemical plants and on my own cars. Good stuff.

        Jim,

The aircraft guys all use a product commonly called Fuel Save. The newer version of that product is EzTurn Lube. Available at aircraft supply stores. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...ezturnlube.php

I use it on all brake and fuel lines and other fittings.

On the FI intakes/baseplates I use Loctite 545 hydraulic sealant on the fittings. Never had a problem with leaks.

Pipe joint compound that you can buy at any hardware store. It's suitable for sealing water and steam pipes and provides anti-seize properties. Also, I am not aware that NPT fittings have a recommended torque spec. They should only be tightened enough to be leak free. I think many over-torque them. They should just be snug - maybe 10 lb-ft.
