I'm told that the judging manual is not correct with some items for inspection paint. Where can I find an accurate guide for all parts painted via inspection?

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
On my 60, all of the front suspension, rear axle and spring inspection marks were covered by the chassis black out process. I uncovered them when I was cleaning the accumulation of 50 years of grease off using mineral spirits. Once I got through the grease, there was a light layer of paint that was pretty easy to remove. There are references to this in the judging guide.
This is my experience with a car bought from the original owner. What is widely accepted may be different.......

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
Tom, thanks for responding. As I said I am aware of the judging guide's comments but have been told that there may be inaccuracies from someone who has done many body offs - all top flighted highly. I am not an expert and rely on this forum and members for their expertise and experience. So I was asking if there is a more comprehensive source.- Top

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
Greg,
We documented many of the inspection marks in the recently updated 61-62 manual. Off hand, I can't think of any that wouldn't apply to a 1960 car.
Having said that, if you have a question about a specific inspection mark, it might be better to ask about that specific mark. We would then be in a better position to address your specific question.

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
Guys,
FYI - front suspension paint marks are mainly chassis identification (part) paint identification marks. Visual aids to an installer to easily identify part applications and placement on the assembly. Example on the tire rods; left is one color and right is another. That's to make sure the tie rods have opposite right/left threads.
Yellow paint generally denotes a Corvette part since there were 3 assembly plants at the St.Louis facility.
Inspections paint marks are for an example of the rear end flange nut, which indicates the nut was properly torqued.

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
From my 60. Grey marks on spring. Visible on two coils after cleaning off the black overcoat. Evidence of it on some of the other coils also. Like they took a brush and just went down the spring.

Greg, there is a ton of information in old Restorer Magazines, order a set for your car on DVDs and research away!

Re: Inspection Paint 1960
i would expect expect to see front springs painted black with a grey stripe approximately 3/4" wide, that looks like a brush stroke.
Gary makes a great point about the difference between inspection marks and paint marks used to distinguish parts at the factory or manufacturing plant.
