67' single point distributor system; Also ignition coils

Need help understanding distributors and the ignition coil? I have a 1967 427 390hp car with radio but no AC. Did all 1967 cars have a single point distributor? and what does this actually mean? Also I'm looking at replacing the ignition coil and I need to understand the difference between an ignition coil and transistor ignition coil? Ex: #232 and #263. Also I know my car has a coil ballast resistor and if so would I then not have a transistor ignition coil. I fairly ignorant on this topic??????????
    Thx Dave

    Dave -

All '62-'74 Corvettes with point ignition used essentially the same Delco single-point (single set of points) distributor, and your car used a #1115264 coil. That Delco distributor used a single set of breaker points, vs. some earlier C1 distributors that used two sets of breaker points. The link below will take you to an article I wrote that explains how the Corvette ignition system works, in layman's terms, including the breaker points.

If you use points you need the matching coil. The turns ratio between the primary and secondary windings of the coils are quite different
