    66 - Headlamp Switch

on a 66, i am looking to swap out the headlamp (headlight) switch

1 - what modern day tool is good for getting the "ferrule" off?

2 - from the diagram in the service manual, it looks like there might be a clip on top of the assembly that hangs it onto a little ledge? - or once the ferrule is off is it just loose?

3 - any tips on getting the old wiring socket out w/o cracking/breaking it? - is there some kind of equivalent to penetrating fluid that softens brittle plastic up a bit to avoid breaking it? (the service manual says using a screwdriver is ok to pry it apart...)

when i refer to the service manual i am looking at the pages attached

    thanks!

      Stephen -

They make a tool for that ferrule nut (the small one in the photo below), or you can make one by grinding down a socket, or you can use the tips of a pair of needle-nose pliers.

Thanks Guys - made the swap last night

I had dash lights and thougth the reostat was bad on the old switch

new one (which is a rebuilt original) still provides no dash lights

what would be the next trouble shooting step to figure out what is wrong?

Dumb question but have you checked the fuse?
