    '96 A-arm cotter pins

    DSCN3728.jpg

Is this the correct way to bend the cotter pins on the lower and upper A-arms on my '96 CE?

    Thanks,
    Paul Schwack (59307)

    Hi Paul,

Here is a pic of mine. I'm 99% sure this hasn't been touched since installed at the factory.

The originals on my 96 look similar to Floyd's - bent down and slightly spread apart.

This type of cotter pin bending is accomplished by using a tubular tool slightly larger in ID than the "across-the-points" OD of the nut. I have no doubt it was used by the factory as a "quick-and-dirty" means of bending over the cotter pin. However, in my opinion, it's an absolutely bogus way to do it.

              Joe,
In the early C3 years, like your 1969, the ball stud cotter pins were bent this way to allow clearance for the wheel alignment machinery. I am not sure this was the case for C4s, but it was the case for my SALA 1995 Caprices.
