1958 Spare Tire and Wheel

Need some guidance based on Judging. I installed my spare tire today and notice the cover setups up about 1/2. After reading the judging manual this is common with Reproduction tires. The wheel is original dog bone steel wheel with all the right marketings. The tire is the original specs from COKER tires in Tennessee - Firestone 2 1/2 whitewall tire. What are people doing to make the board mount flush ?

Yes, that's the only thing you can do Eric. When driving to judging, leave it full. When you get there before going into the show field, let some out. Take a 12v compressor with you so you can fill it back up for the ride home.

If you are being flight judged the spare is NOT judged in the car, so its not an issue. It only becomes a possible problem if you are having your car PV'd, then the board should set flat.

On my 60 I had to let most of the air out of the tire to get the board to lay flat. I wanted the board to fit correctly even though it is not judged in the car. Judges at Regional and National didn't say anything about it being flat. Since they readily recognize the repro tires, they don't spend a lot of time looking at them.
