Gooding Auction sold a 1963 split window 327/340hp car for 220K! Explain that to me! I guess these buyers are also going to say they "Never Inhaled"

That's what happens when a buyer takes an auction description at face value. It usually does not end well for that person.

Education about the thing one's going to purchase is vital. Without knowledge a fool and his money will soon be separated. These old cars are no different than buying and thing else. Sometimes get what you pay for other times your not so lucky. So knowledge is key........ If they wanna pay it, let them.

My feeling no Corvette is worth a 1/4 million dollars. I know a lot of people put a whole bunch of value in L71, L88 and L89 under the hood of the C2's. But most of those can be blown away by todays off the show room floor Mustang or Camaro maybe even a 4 door BMW.

Do you really think that the guy with an L88, L89, L71 cares that today's performance cars can blow them away or that in itself diminishes the value of a rare pedigreed SHP midyear big block? If that's the case then I will advise a good friend of mine with vintage Ferrari's to sell them all ASAP because all of them will also get blown away by today's performance cars.

I would like to ad a few things to this subject - I have driven Vettes for over 30 years now ( mostly restored older cars ) I just sold my 65 coupe because at 75 years found it harder to work on it then when I was much younger. I just purchased a 2015 coupe and am loving it. I would like to go back to the area of young kids getting involved in Corvettes, I still go to many shows and cruise nights and am shocked how many younger people show up as part of a Mopar Club or Mustang Club - for some reason Corvette Clubs are made up of older guys (most younger guys are driving Camaros) I would think price has something to do with that. One of my main beefs over the last 30 years is where the quality and price has gone on replacement parts - getting to be a real pain to get quality. I drove a Duntov, Triple Crown BB Coupe for 12 years - got rid of it as it would someday soon need restoration and at my age the 4 speed and no air was getting to be a problem. I bought the 2015 knowing one way or another it would be the last vette I ever buy - am I worrying about losing money NO with the average miles I put on it per year I look forward to many years of very little money spent keeping it in shape vs. the dollars I was spending fixing every little thing on my older ones. I also gave some real thought about living on a fixed income. Had some great years but am in a much better place now. Whatever floats your boat get out there and do some boating.

I don't think that ever enters into the equation as they don't get driven. The deep pocket cars are only intended as visual objects to be eventually sold to the next guy for a profit.

Guys there is no Barrett-Jackson/NCRS connection if the car has never been in the system! The car you are discussing was never judged in NCRS.

I believe some forgot that if BJ/owner Claim NCRS province the have to prove it. If not NO mention of NCRS can be made. Maybe the are talking about the other auctions that claim a NCRS connection with every Corvette that cross the block.
