Completely agree that $170K for a car with a repro Trim tag is ridiculous. I also agree that it was good that it was presented that way. However, I wonder what it would have brought if it was also stated that NCRS would brand this car counterfeit/fraud, since they love to refer to NCRS as the standard.

Good point, Barrett-Jackson always push the NCRS connection when it suits their purposes, and ignore it when it doesn't, but typical auctioneers.

Does anyone think that B.J is trying to give the market a false rise in value. If you have a cool million to spend you still don't pay that kind of money for made up cars. I'm in the the car business and go to alot of car auctions and twice last night I found they only had one person bidding on a car but the bid kept going up at 5k increments. Once the auctioneer told the ringman it was only you and me kid and laughed and sold the car for 140k.

I happened to see on one of the car shows where they were at an auction and their car did not sell. The host explained the process of "chandelier" bidding. The auctioneer is accepting/creating phantom bids in order to bring the car up to it's reserve price. I would hope this practice is only done with items that have a reserve.

I have been to several auctions, and I will never raise my own bid unless the bidders assistant can show me the other bidder(s). They do not like that, but phantom and shill bidders are far too common at these huge, fast paced events where the auctioneer wants to run the prices up even if you are the only bidder. As one auctioneer once told me, "In confusion there is opportunity". If you are not sure anyone is actually bidding against you, stop bidding, IMO.

I think many of those that bid at B.J's are big money people. To some being able to say I paid this for that seems to impress others who they know. Why else would people over pay for cars not worth the prices they are selling for?

It seemed ALL the numbers on all the cars were through the roof last night. 200K for a circus car made from a Model T with a cage on the back for a lion? Really? 200K! What the hell is going on in this world.????? I wish I had that kind of money to waste on a sh*tbox like that.....LOL.....

Yeah, The buyer could have put another 50K with that 200 and bought Jed Clampett's old ride...now that's a REAL car bucko. My guess is that puppy will show up in an outbuilding near Cumberland Maryland as soon as it is shipped out of Scottsdale. Perfect fit in my humble opinion.

I once overheard an attendee at B-J explaining that he normally goes to Vegas and gambles. Losing big money but being entertained in the process. It was just an expensive form of entertainment. This time he was trying the B-J experience, but also buying a car to drive back home instead of flying. He probably sold the car upon arriving home, no doubt at a loss, but he got his moneys worth because he just wanted to have some fun. Must be nice.

You guys are lucky in the good old USA,you get to view the Auction.Up here in Canada we get a lousy 4 hours on Saturday ... I am sure tha Mr Pratts name will come up a few times. Is there any special Corvettes going through ???

Tracy, it wasn't even real! Half way through the bidding, after talking about Buddy Ebson and Max Baer Jr., it was Mike Joy I think that disclosed that the car was NOT from the TV show but was from the movie that was made several years ago. Big difference to me but apparently not to the bidders. And I am still not clear on the "I Love Lucy" Pontiac. Was it the actual car or a car exactly like it? I seemed to have heard both descriptions. As for "chandelier" or "shill" bidding, It has been my understanding that it was only acceptable in "reserve" situations in order to get to the reserve price or get the reserve lifted. Did the Pratt cars have reserves? Chip.

I have never been to an NCRS event so this is the first time I have ever been able to view a bunch of really, really nice corvettes, at one location. Also I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good corvette parts supplier in the Phoenix area.

Stop by and see the red '57 Fuelie that is being sold with its' VIN mate 2007 on Saturday. It is a Duntov and the guy that has it is from Ohio is a great guy to chat with about his cars. BJ is always fun, even if some bidders and some sellers are pretty odd, I left yesterday. Stop by the NCRS booth too, Barr and Ballard are usually there. Good luck!

I can see you are upside down over BJ. Lots of eye candy there, but some/most of it can be very high maintenance. Have fun, and do stop by the NCRS booth and chat with those hard working folks.

Bottom Line - the higher the prices are for older corvette's, the better off all of us are. Makes ours worth more down the road.

How does higher prices help us? It just makes it so every day car guys can't afford Corvettes. It's bad enough all ready without making it more expensive. Only the men with money falling out of their pockets will have the cars if the prices keep climbing. I don't have my cars for the money. I have them cause I like my cars and enjoy working on and driving them.
