    Bob,

Do you know the ID of the restorer (the suppossed NCRS judge)??

No Lief, I don't. When I spoke to the owner, he basically repeated what was on the american street machine ad. I'm not sure but I got the impression he was duped into believing it was all real. As soon as he told me $85k and how much he was losing, I asked about the engine. He immediately told me that some NCRS judges looked at it and said it was a restamped engine. I don't know if he tried to have it judged and maybe found out.I don't think he needed to sell it as he has a collection, just sounded disappointed to me. The car is beautiful no matter what it is but needs to be advertised as whatever it is. I am no expert but thought the tank sticker was too perfect and the window sticker too aged for my liking. Again, not being and expert, I did not like the pad at all. All other things to look for on a big block was in place. I thought it strange that the TI was not hooked up. It had a resistor and points but it looked like a new TI harness in place as well. I think I looked and saw the amp in place too. The carbs were repops.

I have been a member of the ncrs Ontario chapter for 4 years now. I have been judging and learning more every day about this wonderful hobby. It amazes me that people change and counterfeit cars and expect to get away with it. All I can say is buyer be ware and I hope to keep learning more and respect those master judges who have earned ther stripes.... Enzo

Enzo, I agree that this is a wonderful hobby and one should always strive to keep learning. As for getting away with fake cars, unfortunately people have been getting away with it for decades and is a huge problem. Think about the poor unknowing guy who shows up at a meet only to be told that his car has been branded a fake. Should he have done his due diligence? Of course but for some folks, time is a commodity that is in short supply so they buy on impulse. Do you think that he will buy another classic Corvette? Most have such a bad taste in their mouths that they walk away which is a real shame.

It is either St. Louis or AO Smith but not both. If it is AO Smith the trim tag is bogus and so is the side exhaust. I also agree with the catch on the ident numbers.

I would say this car makes a three dollar bill look authentic. AO Smith body with 67 big block, pipes and a St Louis "S" trim plate that is all wrinkled it was no expert job. Where is the other line of text on the trim tag? Creative broach marks they should be parallel to the crank center line not angled off a couple degrees.

Shouldn't the condolences be for the potential buyer? It appears the seller is just trying to pass along the mistake he made. ;-)

EXACTLY! If the goof that bought this did not know diddly about what to look at, it serves him right and I have no sympathy for him. Let's just make sure threads like this let an unsuspecting buyer know to advoid this car. It really bugs me that the seller is trying to recoup his mistake by sticking it to someone else instead of being honest.

Not a fan of the pad either...fan clutch is wrong as well as a number of the finishes underneath.

Bob, all the justifications sound like a lot of finger pointing. I think it is time to step up and just honestly say what this car os not! The seller is certainly not doing the hobby any favors. I may be in the minority but cars like this offend me. I am proud of what I have and what I have done to make it better but I would never misrepresent it, but I don't have to, it is real.
