    Engine Pad paint removal.

    Hi Guys;

    The engine pad on my 65' was painted Chevy orange along with the rest of the block during restoration. I would like to remove it prior to judging this spring. What would be the best 'product' to use. I'm assuming the paint is enamel.....

    Thanks in advance. David K

    David,

    Any paint thinner will do an excellent job as long as you apply just to the surface. You should have no problem. You can clean around the edges with a Q tip.

        I used a wooden toothpick soaked in paint remover to get the last of the paint out of the letter and number stampings.

          I agree. Bare surface can rust quickly

              I soaked a small part of a rag with B-12 carb cleaner and held it in place to soften the paint. Then a light rub with repeated fresh moistend B-12 rag.

                I did exactly what Ken has described. Works quite well.

                  Most engine paints are lacquer based, so lacquer thinner is likely the best solvent other than paint remover. A Q-tip and toothpick as advised should work well.

                  WD-40 or Armorall will protect the pad from corrosion, but won't pick up dirt as readily as oil.
