i've stripped the paint/grease/undercoating from 8 c-1's and a dozen c-2's over the years. most, if not all paint strippers contain methylene chloride, which also does a fine job of stripping the outer layer of your skin should it make contact. being the thrifty type (some would describe it as cheap) i've used disposable surgeon's gloves(cheaply removed from our office). the free gloves are composed of latex or non-latex synthetic materials. these babies are no match for methylene chloride or lacquer thinner(which is my last solvent when removing the crap off old corvettes). Recently i discovered a glove that stands up very well to the methylene chloride and not too bad to lacquer thinner. these puppies are re-usable (frugality?) . they go by the name THICKSTER by the SAS safety corp. i get them at the local parts store. one downside to the THICKSTER----they are about 35 bucks for 25 pair. mike

Re: resto tip
Interesting, I will have to try those. I have always used the thicker nitrile gloves for these kind of things.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: resto tip
Mike,
For stripping the undercoat and road grime a friend of mine and restorer from the bootheal of Missouri recommended to me (Easy Off Oven Cleaner). It works great!!!! It's thick and when left on for about 30 minutes it takes the stuff off in a couple of of coats. And yes, you better have the gloves on as this stuff will burn your skin OFF!

Re: resto tip
Hi Mike - Thanks for the tip. I also use a rebreather now, as when I stripped the undercoating off my convertible I ended up in the ER after breathing the stuff in!1965 Conv 327/365HP 4 sp, 3.73, KO's, pb 96.6 pts

Re: resto tip
Hi Mike,
Methylene chloride is nasty stuff, and will degrade any form of latex glove fairly quickly. Back in my Dow Chemical days, vinyl gloves were strongly recommended when dealing with MeCl. Maybe not for the "thrifty," but if you consider you can wear them multiple times before disposing them, they do provide some value and maximum protection.
And yes, they are as uncomfortable as they look. I would wear a pair of latex gloves over the top of them just to form them a bit better to my hands.
