I got on base. When I first replied, I spelled it "McNeish"....then I remembered ....."I before E except after C".....and changed it. I always get McDonalds and MacDonalds wrong too.....At least I'm consistent.

Jerry's web-site shows a "very rare" 1969 Z-28 right side manifold that was weld-repaired. The thing I don't understand is what's so rare about this manifold that would justify a weld-repair. This same manifold was used on many other 1969 and later small block applications. Of course, maybe there's some nuance I'm missing as I really have no Camaro experience.

I don't think there is anything "rare" about that manifold. I once owned a 69 Camaro 350 2 barrel three speed car that had smog and those manifolds were on the car. If the car was a straight drive, small block in 1969 it had smog. So there were many many of those "rare" manifolds in the market.

With all that's been said about repair methods and durability, would you consider this hole an easy cast iron repair? Manifold in pics was on my car when I bought it and drove back to Canada. It's an "828" (RH) with what looks like a casting date of G_2_7; it has the A.I.R. holes.

Thought I smelled exhaust while driving but couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

This hole was probably caused by "big-block-itis" [thrashing the go pedal] and worn motor mounts, allowing the engine to twist until contacting the idler arm bolt at the frame attach bracket.

              Or, is it just a door-stop ?

That's obvious and not in question. The question was why did he call it "very rare"?

That one I might take a chance on a weld repair. Also, if there's enough thickness of material at the hole, you might be able to drill and tap it for a very short countersunk head screw. Then, carefully grind the the screw head flush with the manifold.
