Trailing Arm Bushing Center Tube Flare

    Quick question.

Should both sides of the flared center tube be flush with the washer(s)?

I am thinking yes from reading previous threads.

If that is the case is it fairly typical to slightly grind one side or the other to be flush?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,
Quick answer! The bushing will have to be compressed and both ends of the sleeve will have to be flared (one usually is already) as the assembly is compressed. The ends should be flush with the washers installed. You will need to borrow a staking tool or buy one from one of the big box Corvette parts suppliers.
If you are doing this only once it will be cheaper to send the trailing arms out to someone like Bair's or Ikerds.

      Thanks.

The bushings are installed and flared. The one side of the sleeve sticks out just slightly on one side of both bushings.

Should both sides be flush with the washer?

      Thanks,

      Bill

Bill grind both sides flat. I do it on every arm I build, original or new.

Thank you Gary. I saw an old trailing arm rebuild thread from you on another site with pics and it looked like exactly as you say.
