    thought i'd seen it all

am in the process of stripping all chrome/trim/emblems from the next project, a 63 FI roadster i've had for about 25-30 years. when i bought it, i looked the body over pretty good and it didn't appear to have any previous body work. i've since confirmed my initial impression of the old girl, with the exception of the left front parking/directional signal assembly. turns out ole bubba went to the Home Depot instead of corvette central or long island corvette supply. he must have lost the attaching studs and their nuts to secure the assembly to the parking light fiberglass panel so he picked up a bag of Sacrete(spelling looks troublesome) . i had to take a hammer and ice pick to break up the concrete at the rear of the light assembly. mike

    Mike,

I believe that particular repair was called for in a GM Technical Service Bulletin issued around September 1962. It was titled " Why the He!! not ".

BTW Mikie, do you have ANY projects that are not "FI" equipped?

got a couple of bbd's left. but the 283 and 327 solid lifter engines have a special place in my ticker. of course, they all have to be "bone stock" internally. regards tc, mike

Yes, As I recall neither you or Dennis (Dipstick) would dream of running any cheater parts in your
          Corvettes. Never Never

Mike, this experience should really cement your relationship with your car...

              Hi Mike,

I always enjoy your posts! Cement, huh? Bubba got especially creative on your car.

What's a BBD? Ah, yes, bone stock, we all love that!

The GM advertised horse power numbers are just "a minimum base line guide" to always stay above when a rebuilt is called for. Too much power is NOT an option.

The priceless moment in that story for me was when Dipstick lumbered down the track to a 14 something while the Maryland missile was going up in smoke at the start finish line, that is once I got past the "will race for diapers cardboard sign on the back of the trailer."

                  You had to be there!

Good to see you post Dennis !

If you Google "Cheater Part" you will find #14's Mug on the first page and your picture is listed right after that. Most likely the only time you came in second to that guy.

I don't think a cemented block or nitrous is on the list of "cheater parts" not saying anyone had either or both of those items mind you.

He sure didn't come in second to the Maryland Missile at the track - I might add the Maryland Missile had been up to a full second faster in every practice run. Might have been a sandbagger who didn't need to use any "cheater part"

I thought a cheater part is any part that has been perfected to the way the General meant it to be, therefore they are actually stock.

So now the car no longer lists heavily to port ?Had blue plastic probably from a bucket used to replace a missing part of the rear valence on a 57.
