    66 - Steel Wheels

Are there any reproduction steel wheels that are acceptable for NCRS judging (i.e., that would not have points deducted b/c they are not original)?

5th post in this thread says only "real deal" will show but that was a 2011 post - https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...6-steel-wheels

appears new repros are out with the correct "bumps" - do these cut it?

    thanks

so here is an ad of the new type of reproduction:

    says

"Not a universal type wheel with shared components from other wheels * All new tooling with exact detail * Has the "nubs" at the valve stem, just like the originals"

Will this cut it for judging?

    thanks

Sorry Steve. I don't know the answer.

I can however take several detailed photos of an original 66 wheel for comparrison if it would help .

Steve, I recently purchased a set of reproduction steel wheels from Corvette Specialties Manufacturing last summer and although I can't tell you how they will judge, I can tell you that other than markings, I was unable to tell the difference compared to the one 66 original that I have on hand. I can also tell you that they didn't require excessive weights to achieve good balance (back side only) and the load run out was well within normal acceptable standards. The only thing I did was re-spray the front side only with a gloss black whereas they came with more of a semi-gloss finish IMO which was perfect for the backside. Additionally the 66 hubcaps fit perfectly and they are holding their air pressure perfectly as well. Ralph

            Steve,

I bought a pair at Carlyle for $250.00 each a few years ago. For roughly $100.00 a wheel I think I would rather have originals. But it's not my money we're spending here. What exactly does the Judging Guide say about the steel wheels?
